Polonca Posted November 22, 2004 Share Posted November 22, 2004 IKO, the International Kiteboarding Organization, is expanding its activities to snowkite training programs. To meet the needs and specificities of snow kite conditions in various countries, the IKO is working with a group of experienced snow kite instructors and kiteboard examiners from Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, the UK, France and Canada. The group will meet in December in Norway to finalize the contents and the first trainings of snow kite instructors will be organized. At present time, 2 training are scheduled in Norway and one in Finland. Other snow kite instructor courses are going to be organized in various countries and will be listed on the IKO training calendar (www.ikorg.com). IKO certified instructors can follow a 3 day training course and become snow kite instructors. To participate, their IKO membership must be valid. New candidate instructors will follow the 5 day training course. The prerequisites are: · Be at least 18 years old, · Be kiteboarding for more than 6 months, · Be able to perform a jump, perform a controlled turn and switch riding, ride constantly upwind and ride between other riders, · Have an IKO assistant instructor certification or provide an attestation (letter of recommendation) of a teaching experience in a water, aerial, skiing sport or power kite teaching, · Have a valid first aid certificate, · Have a drivers licence. IKO, the International Kiteboarding Organization, was founded in November 2001 in order to develop and promote kiteboarding worldwide. Through the development of a professional network, IKO provides a high level of teaching standards, recognized and applied worldwide, encompassing more than 800 instructors, 13 examiners, and 75 affiliated centers worldwide. IKO publications include the Kiteboarder’s Workbook, for a better comprehension of students during their lessons, and Kiteboarding Vision, the essential book to extend one’s knowledge in various fields related to kiteboarding.
